The year was 2004. My son was then one year old. We were cycling, he was sitting behind me. I noticed a flea market seller at the nearby marketplace. He had a dark blue pitcher for sale. He asked 30 euros for it. I thought it was expensive so I asked for a discount. The final price was 25 \u20ac. The most famous pitchers were models: 1609, 1610 and 1621. According to the ideal of the time, Franck sought to create an objects that would take as little storage space as possible. Therefore pitchers do not have a handle. Fashionable drink \u201dcocktail\u201d was translated into Finnish as \u201dKimara\u201d. Pitcher 1610, Kimarasekoittaja, Cocktailmixer, number 1610, size 80 cl was in production 1956-1965. It is said that the Kaj Franck got the idea while visiting Venice, <strong>Paolo Veninis<\/strong> home. Each guest had a cocktail glass of different color. However, colored glass was made elsewhere, for example in Sweden at the Reijmyren glass factory. Franck has played a key role in developing Nuutaj\u00e4rvis unique color scheme. The most common colouring agent used for red glass is selenium.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>How do I recognize an original pitcher 1610?<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are a fews simple ways to identify a pitcher 1610 of the 1950s. In this picture you can see Aarne-pitcher designed by Aarne Hongell on the right. Pitchers beak is the same type as in the new Kartio-pitchers. In the old pitchers the beak is different, but also there is a clear difference on the mouth due to a change in the method of cutting (from cracking-off\/cold cutting to \u00a0flame-cutting\/hot cutting). A scratch made with a diamond or hard-metal bit is heated with a gas flame making thermal shock cut the glass. Nowadays cracking-off machines are fully automatic. <\/em>Right (Aarne-pitcher): <em>Flame-cutting, the blow cap can be removed by flame-cutting. The part to be cut is heated with a gas flame and is stretched and thinned by the machine. The part is reheated and the cap falls off. A flame-cut edge does not require finishing. Vuosi oli 2004. Poikani oli silloin yksivuotias. Olimme h\u00e4nen kanssaan py\u00f6r\u00e4ilem\u00e4ss\u00e4, h\u00e4n istui turvaistuimessa. Huomasin l\u00e4heisell\u00e4 torilla kirpputorin. Yhdell\u00e4 myyj\u00e4ll\u00e4 oli tumman<\/em><em>sininen kaadin myyt\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4. H\u00e4n pyysi siit\u00e4 30 euroa. Mielest\u00e4ni se oli kallis, sain hinnan tingattua 25 euroon. Siit\u00e4 se n\u00e4iden kaatimien ker\u00e4ily l\u00e4hti. Nyt minulla on n\u00e4it\u00e4 14 kappaletta.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaj Franck<\/strong> suunnitteli lukuisia k\u00e4ytt\u00f6esineit\u00e4 1950-luvulla. Tunnetuimpia kaatimia olivat mallit: 1609, 1610 ja 1621. Ajan muotoiluihanteen mukaan Franck pyrki luomaan v\u00e4h\u00e4n s\u00e4ilytystilaa viev\u00e4n esineen, siksi kaatimessa ei ole kahvaa. Muotijuoma Cocktail suomennettiin sanaksi Kimara. Pitcher 1610, Kimarasekoitin, Cocktailsekoitin, numerolla 1610, koko 80 cl oli tuotannossa 1956-1965. Iittala otti kaatimen uudelleen tuotantoon vuonna 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Monipuolinen v\u00e4rien k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 oli Nuutaj\u00e4rven uutuus vuonna 1953. Kerrotaan, ett\u00e4 Kaj Franck sai idean Venetsiasta vieraillessaan Paolo Veninin kodissa. Jokaisella vieraalla oli eriv\u00e4rinen cocktail-lasi. V\u00e4rillist\u00e4 lasia tehtiin kuitenkin muuallakin mm. Ruotsissa Reijmyren lasitehtaalla. Franckilla oli keskeinen osa kehitt\u00e4ess\u00e4 Nuutaj\u00e4rven ainutlaatuista v\u00e4rimaailmaa. 1950-luvulla varsinaisten perusv\u00e4rien lis\u00e4ksi tuotannossa oli kolme v\u00e4rikokeilua yht\u00e4 aikaa. Nuutaj\u00e4rven kuvasto vuodelta 1958 mainitsee v\u00e4reiksi: kirkkaan, liilan, rubiinin, savun, turkoosin, sammalenvihre\u00e4n, oliivin ja taivaansinisen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><strong>Mist\u00e4 tunnistan alkuper\u00e4isen vanhan kaatimen?<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span>On muutama yksinkertainen tapa tunnistaa 1950-luvun kaatimet uusista 1993 eteenp\u00e4in tuotannossa olevista. Oheisista kuvista l\u00f6yd\u00e4t kaatimen mitat, mutta helpoin tapa on tunnistaa kaadin nokasta. Vanhoissa kaatimissa nokka on erilainen, mutta my\u00f6s kaatimen reunassa on selv\u00e4 ero: ennen k\u00e4ytettiin kylm\u00e4katkaisua, nykyisin k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n kuumakatkaisua.
